Revelations 22:12-21

Read Revelations 22:12-21 Verses for meditation: Revelations 22:12-13, 16, 20-21 ESV: 12 "Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” 16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. Reflect How does it feel to be reading the very last few verses of the bible? What do the proclamations, the last few of them, say about Christ? Come, Lord Jesus! Does this really express our desire? How does the greatest book end, and on what note? But is this really the end? Relate With mixed feelings, I'm writing this last devotion based on the final ten verses of the greatest book, the bible. What a journe...

Genesis 5.1-6.8/Psalm 3

READ: Genesis 5.1-6.8/Psalm 3

Verses meditated upon: Genesis‬ ‭6‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭
And the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” But Noah found favor with the Lord.”

REFLECT

The passage from Genesis 5.1-6.8 spoke about the genealogy of Adam to Noah and on how men multiplied and became wicked in God’s eyes which subsequently led to the destruction of human race and all living things on earth. It was also mentioned in Genesis 5:1 that when God created humans, He made them in His own image but not many mentioned to have lived in a close fellowship with God. To make it worse men has become so wicked and consistently evil which broke God’s heart.  Subsequently Genesis 6:7wrote that God intended to wipe out all living things and He regretted creating them. Does this really mean that God regretted creating humans and intended to exterminate them? We subsequently read from Genesis 6:8 onwards on how God planned to preserve the human lineage through Noah and the building of his Ark. Our Heavenly Father is a merciful and redemptive God and this is not only demonstrated in the eventual survival of Noah and his family through the great flood but also in the ultimate salvation plan through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:7).

RELATE

Genesis 6‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ may sound horrifying as we learnt about the consequence of triggering God’s wrath. It certainly relates very well to our current state of the world where wickedness and evil prevail. Is God angry with human race just like what we have read in Genesis? Wars and oppressions, human greed, selfishness and ungodliness are many such examples that displeased God, just like in Noah’s time.

2 Timothy 3: 1-5  clearly wrote about all these human wickedness in the last days. The human race (save for Noah and his families with the living things on his Ark) was destroyed by a massive flood. Our imagination of the next annihilation may be filled with the movie scenes depicted in 2012 or the day after tomorrow. We may imagine that the world ends in a nuclear war or a destructive climate disaster. We do not know how and when the last day will be but we can certainly be sure that we have been redeemed by Christ our Savior. He will come again like a bridegroom to receive His bride. But we should be prepared like the wise bridesmaids who took extra oil with their lamps to wait for the bridegroom (Matthew 25:1-10)

REST

Heavenly Father, we thank You for creating us in Your own image. Your intention is for us to have a close relationship with you but we have chosen to be disobedient. Please forgive us for not acting according to Your will. But yet again You have redeemed us with the blood of our Lord Jesus. In this world of sinfulness and wickedness we pray that You will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus so that we can overcome evil and stand prepared for Your second coming. In Jesus name we pray, Amen
