Read: Isaiah 51-52:12
Verses chosen for meditation:
Isaiah 51:12-13
[12] “I, I am he who comforts you;
who are you that you are afraid of man who dies,
of the son of man who is made like grass,
[13] and have forgotten the LORD, your Maker,
who stretched out the heavens
and laid the foundations of the earth,
and you fear continually all the day
because of the wrath of the oppressor,
when he sets himself to destroy?
And where is the wrath of the oppressor?
Reflect
Isaiah 51-52 continues with God's rebuke and encouragement for Israel. After the period of exile, they were told to awake to the hope and promise that God gave them. The promise that they shall be free again and even receive the comfort of God for their pass afflictions.
They were reminded that God is the One in control of everything. While He was the One who put Israel through a time of discipline for their sins, He was also the One who comforted when Israel was down and coming out of their slavery. He was the One who strengthened when they were weak.
So Israel was told not to cast their lots with men. They should not be afraid of mortals who threatened and oppressed them. For if they are truly the children of the most High; God will see to it that they are provided for and redeemed.
Relate
What happened to Israel applies to us today. We who believe are also children of the most High. If we are the children of God, then similar to the people of Israel, we need not fear the oppression, evil and threats of others.
We need not fear that we will lose out even if we render patience in the midst of injustice. We need not fear that we will be defeated in the end just because there are people around us who are bent on seeing us doomed. We need not fear when it seemed that the world is turning against what we are doing biblically in lifestyle. We can be courageous and continue to live right.
The end of the year 2023 is upon us. Instead of making new year resolutions, let us continue to be resolute in living out our true identity in Christ. This should be the life we committed to for as long as we live. It shouldn't be a resolution which last only for a few weeks or months. Why and how? The reasoning God gave is powerful. We can do so, because God is our firm foundation. So we need not fear, at all.
