Revelations 22:12-21

Read Revelations 22:12-21 Verses for meditation: Revelations 22:12-13, 16, 20-21 ESV: 12 "Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” 16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. Reflect How does it feel to be reading the very last few verses of the bible? What do the proclamations, the last few of them, say about Christ? Come, Lord Jesus! Does this really express our desire? How does the greatest book end, and on what note? But is this really the end? Relate With mixed feelings, I'm writing this last devotion based on the final ten verses of the greatest book, the bible. What a journe...

Jeremiah 50 "God never forsake"

Read: Jeremiah 50

Verses chosen for reflection:

50:33 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: The people of Israel are oppressed, and the people of Judah with them. All who took them captive have held them fast; they refuse to let them go. 34 Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name. He will surely plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, but unrest to the inhabitants of Babylon.

Reflect

While Babylon had been given the mandate to conquer Judah and held captive the people of Judah; this did not absolve Babylon of her sins. Babylon could have treated God's people better when they were held captive. They could have let them go during the appointed time.

Instead, the people of God were being oppressed as the prophet Jeremiah foretold. When it was time to let go, Babylon held them fast in their hands. Therefore, God gave the word that eventually, Babylon would also be destroyed. This was also due to the promise that God would bring His people back to the land of Israel. God is always the Great Shepherd of Israel. He will never let them be totally given to the hands of the enemies.

Relate

There were times in my life when I thought God had forgotten about my plight. These were moments of deep disappointment. The natural inclination was to push the blame on God. Why have you forgotten me? Why have you let those who did evil go unpunished? Why did you even allow the wicked and powerful to prosper even further?

Of course, it is never God's fault. Because these were also moments where I have forgotten that God promised His will would work out eventually. He just didn't say how. Even if He did not say anything to me, I can always refer to His word; for it contains many examples of how God remembers and redeemed. Yes, I was just being impatient. I just wanted God's will be done in my way. And sometimes, I suspect that God delayed the pain, just so I can learn better and be better.

God is the Redeemer. He will never leave or forsake His children. We are His children. No matter what we are going through. No matter if our oppressors seem to prosper despite the wickedness they have done. No matter how we have deliberately distance ourselves away from God. God in His mercy and love, is always near. Just that in our own sense of hopelessness and disappointment; we thought He did not care. We thought He had left.

Never. Just as He never leave Judah to complete demise; God would never leave His children to the point where we cannot enjoy His presence again. So my friends, hold fast to the Lord. He is near. He is our Redeemer.
